State School Superintendent Richard Woods seeks Student Advisory Council

State School Superintendent Richard Woods is seeking middle and high school students to serve on his 2017-2018 Student Advisory Council. These students will meet with Superintendent Woods to discuss the impact of state policies in the classroom, along with other issues related to education, and will serve as the Superintendent’s ambassadors to their respective schools.

VCS Closing on Monday, August 21

There will be no school for students or staff on Monday, August 21, 2017, as a result of conditions associated with the total solar eclipse. The eclipse presents a unique situation which could create numerous logistical challenges resulting in conditions that could place students at risk. Additionally, the partial phase of the solar event will take place during school dismissal.

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Valdosta chapter recently announced the winner of its free tuition contest for its inaugural 2017-2018 year. Aspiring young entrepreneur, Jalen Denton, an upcoming sixth grade student at Valdosta Middle School’s STEM Program, responded to a previously announced contest to describe why he is interested in entrepreneurship and what makes him Valdosta’s Next Top Young Entrepreneur.

Summer-long digital billboard campaign drives parents and caregivers to GeorgiaSummer.org to discover summer resources for children and families

In an effort to close the achievement gap by supporting the expansion of access to summer learning, health, and safety opportunities, the partners of the Get Georgia Reading Campaign have teamed up with the National Summer Learning Association and Clear Channel Outdoor Americas for a public service campaign to stress the importance of keeping kids learning, safe, and healthy this summer.

Twelve VHS Seniors Graduate from City’s GPP Program

The City of Valdosta recognized 12 Valdosta High School (VHS) seniors who graduated from the Great Promise Partnership (GPP) program, at a ceremony on May 17, held in the Valdosta City Hall Annex Multi-Purpose Room. The students received a GPP stole, a graduate certificate from the GPP program, and a gift from the city.
