2019-20 Promotion/Retention and Grading Information

PreK through 5th Grades

Students, in grades Pre-K - 5, have been completing enrichment and remediation assignments. These students are not receiving extra credit; however, administrators have been working with teachers and parents to ensure that students are not penalized for being out of school because of something beyond their control. Students will either be promoted or administratively placed in the next grade based on what's in the best interest of the students using grades from the first 27weeks of school and teacher recommendations. If there is data to support retention, at the parent's request or agreement, a student may be retained.

6th through 8th Grades

Students, in grades 6-8, have been completing enrichment, remediation, and extra-credit assignments. Students will either be promoted or administratively placed in the next grade based on what's in the best interest of the students using grades from the first 27weeks of school and teacher recommendations. If there is data to support retention, at the parent's request or agreement, a student may be retained.

9th through 12th Grades

Students in grades 9-12 have been completing extra-credit assignments. Points will be added to the child's final grade for the course based on the completion of a certain percentage of the assigned work. The grade advancement is determined by the number of credits a student has earned.

If a parent or guardian still has questions, they can reach out directly to their student's teacher(s) or administrators as everyone is checking emails.  For a list of school principals' email addresses click here, https://bit.ly/VCSPrincipals.
