Students were challenged to read over the summer through the online reading program. This summer students from Valdosta City Schools spent 1,163 hours reading 10,279 books. These numbers soared above last year's 670 hours reading 3,929 books.
For our summer reading challenge, MyOn recognized the top three readers across the district:
First place, Saniah McCarthur, 2nd grade student at W.G. Nunn Elementary School read 48 hours and 45 minutes and was awarded an iPod Shuffle and a $25 iTunes gift card
Second place, Arianna Lewis, 1st grade student at S.L. Mason read 44 hours and 27 minutes and was awarded an iPod Shuffle.
Third place, Jamarri Williams, 8th grade at J.L. Newbern Middle read 31 hours and 2 minutes and was awarded a $25 iTunes gift card.
Special thanks to Saralee Parker, account manager for MyOn, for attending the meeting and awarding the prizes to these outstanding readers.
