They completed an experiment called “Can I lift the teacher?” using two short boards and a 2x4.
A student was assigned to be the technology person, and their job was to video the experiment. Students were allowed to use only their hands to complete the experiment. After several attempts and repositioning, students were able to lift the teacher using effort, force, and team work.
Then, students completed a teacher-made CER (Claim+ Evidence+ Reasoning) inquiry sheet explaining their scientific explanation. The JLL distinguished learners were required to use science terms such as effort, force, resistance force, lever, and fulcrum in their thought process.
The students were amazed thinking something that seemed unrealistic was simple to do. We are proud of these J.L. Lomax scientists!
