“We would like to thank Coach Gillespie for his hard work and dedication to the Valdosta Wildcats, Valdosta High School and our district over the past six years. We wish Coach Gillespie and his family the best of luck in their future endeavors,” said Dr. Todd Cason, superintendent for Valdosta City Schools.
According to Dr. Cason the system will approach the search for a new head football coach at a slow, yet deliberate pace.
“We have no plans to rush into this process,” said Cason. “The board of education will meet on Tuesday (January 12) and we will discuss a plan for conducting this search.”
For previous searches, the system established a search committee. Right now the plan is to work with the board to decide if that will be the best approach for this search. Following the board of education meeting, the job opening will be posted.
“We’ve already received requests from around the southern United States about how to apply for the position,” said Cason.
Until a formal plan is in place, candidates wishing to apply can send their current resumes to VHS principal, Dr. Janice Richardson at 3101 North Forrest Street, Valdosta, Georgia 31602 or via email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cason concluded by saying that he would like to have a new coach in place for the Wildcats’ spring practice.
“We are going to take our time and find the best person for this job. Our kids, our community and our devout Wildcats fans deserve that,” said Cason.
