On Thursday, September 15, parents and scholars were invited to attend a hands-on, interactive, parent evening. During this event, fourth grade teacher, Rejeana Wright and art teacher, Donte Thomas introduced many parents to the concept of STEAM while other teachers offered insight and support. These teachers also explained J.L. Lomax’s goals and plans for integrating STEAM during the 2016-2017 school year.
After the STEAM presentation, parents and students were invited to develop an art project, a science beaker, following instructions for mixing colors using paint and chalk. Finally, as a group, the parent/student class developed a technology based Flow Map to explain the steps of the process that it took to develop their beautiful artwork. Two families also won gift cards to Austin’s Steak House.
Thank you to all of our parents that attended our very first STEAM night! J.L. Lomax would like to invite ALL of our parents, scholars, and stakeholders to attend future STEAM nights, where more fascinating, hands-on activities will be developed. We hope to see you then!
