This year's theme was “Solving Mysteries through Chemistry”. About 25 entries were received in the 3rd - 5th grade category, and winners were selected by faculty of the Valdosta State University Chemistry Department. The best poem awards were presented during Chemistry Science Saturday at Valdosta State University’s Bailey Science Center on October 29th.

Both Kayla and her teacher, Mrs. Anne Cardella, were awarded certificates and $50 prizes. Kayla's winning poem will represent the local American Chemical Society section at the National contest in Washington, D.C.
