Board members received an overview of 2016-2017, Extended Learning Opportunities from a student panel. Principal Beth DeLoach, lead teacher Rhonne Goodson, and Dr. Alex Alvarez, the Director of STEM and Curriculum, delivered budget reports and an update on STEM Academy initiatives. STEM teachers shared their excitement for current and future academic opportunities, including a student STEM Camp to be provided in July at the Valdosta State University STEAM Center for Creativity and Innovation. The board members provided feedback for commendable practices and areas for growth in planning for the 2017-2018 academic year.
The 2017-2018 application window closed on March 22nd and the review process of the large applicant pool will continue through the April 14th acceptance/denial letter mailing date. A contract night will be held on May 9th for new STEM Academy students and parents. Valdosta City Schools looks forward to another exciting school year with the VMS STEM Academy.
