Destruction of Records for PEC Students

PUBLIC NOTICE DESTRUCTION OF RECORDS OF SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS

The Valdosta City School System Department of Special Education announces the intent to destroy specific special education records. Records will be destroyed that were collected, maintained or used in providing a free appropriate public education for disabled and/or exceptional students in the Valdosta City School System. This notice is in compliance with the system’s comprehensive plan for special education as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

It is the intent of Valdosta City Schools to destroy special education records for students that received special education services under an Individual Education Plan while attending Valdosta City Schools but who are no longer enrolled. These records might, however, be needed by the student or parent for Social Security or other reasons. If a student or parent would like copies of a student’s special education records, he or she should contact the Special Education Office at 229-333-8505.

The Valdosta City School System plans to destroy the above referenced Special Education Records on June 30, 2021.
