Valdosta City Schools recently received $10,000 from the Pilot Company through their Giving Back grant program.
According to the company's website, "We give back to organizations that inspire students to excel in school through specialized programs, pursue higher education, or provide STEM bases programs that promote access to technology and foster innovation."
On June 21, Dr. Alex Alvarez with Valdosta City Schools was presented a check for $10,000 from general manager of Pilot Travel Center #4561, Veronica Cuellar. The district will use the check to support the Christmas Book Program established over 7 years ago by Kiley Cashwell in the VCS Central Office.
Each year, Cashwell fundraises to purchase a grade-level appropriate book for every elementary school student in the district. Each book is wrapped and delivered to students during the final week of school leading up to the holiday break.
