Valdosta City Schools hosted the annual local Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl on Saturday, January 20. Teams competed in multiple rounds of questions from the Georgia Children's Book Award program booklist.
J. L. Newbern Middle School and Sallas Mahone Elementary School are the VCS 2024 1st place winners. Additionally, Valdosta Middle and J. L. Lomax placed second. First and second place teams, along with Valdosta High School will advance to compete in the South Regional Bowl on
Saturday, February 24 at Valdosta State University. A huge congrats and thanks goes to all school team members, coaches, volunteers, and families. The purpose of the Helen Ruffin Reading Bowl is to promote independent and recreational reading, increase reading comprehension, enhance verbal communication skills, and develop an appreciation for literature and teamwork.
