The Valdosta City Schools Foundation Board of Directors held its October meeting at Pinevale Elementary School, where members had the opportunity to award a Foundation grant to Dr. Danielle Croft, kindergarten teacher and leader of the Tinikling Team and Junior Fire Marshals Club.
Dr. Croft’s grant will provide new tinikling poles and team shirts for students involved in the clubs, helping them build leadership, teamwork, and confidence through creative movement and community service. Both programs align with the district’s Leader in Me initiative, inspiring students to lead by example and grow with purpose.
The Foundation extends sincere appreciation to Pinevale Elementary School for hosting this month’s meeting and for fostering such strong student engagement and leadership development across the campus.

Pinevale High School, built in 1955 as a school for African American students in Valdosta, graduated its final class in 1969, marking the end of segregation in Valdosta. Decades later, in 2013, the new 127,323-square-foot Pinevale Elementary School opened its doors, proudly preserving the historic gymnasium from the original campus.
Although the gymnasium was heavily damaged during a recent storm, its priceless memorabilia (dating from 1955 to 1972) remained safe. In the summer of 2025, the gym was beautifully restored with a new roof and flooring, setting the stage for something truly special.
On September 19, 2025, Pinevale joyfully celebrated the grand reopening of the gym with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Alumni, students, and friends gathered for this momentous occasion, honoring the school’s rich legacy. The celebration featured a lively performance by the Pinevale Tigerettes Dance Team and inspiring remarks from our very own 4th-grade teacher, Mr. Wright, who served as the speaker.
We were also honored to welcome Superintendent Dr. Craig Lockhart along with several community leaders, whose presence highlighted the significance of this milestone.
It was a day filled with pride, history, and a strong sense of community spirit. This day will be remembered for years to come.

Early Dismissal Announcement

Meet Mrs. Betty Oliver Bess, Pinevale Class of 1967!
✨ Back in the day, she twirled her baton with style and spirit as a majorette in Pinevale High School’s Mighty Tigers marching band. She marched with the Tigers all four years under the direction of Mr. Carter Douglas Marshall.
One of her drum majors is the legendary Leon Henderson, and her fellow drum majorette is the fabulous Barbara Taylor Strickland, both are still proudly carrying the Tiger spirit today! 💛🖤
Today, Mrs. Bess still brings that same Pinevale Tiger pride to our halls as a Foster Grandparent with AmeriCorps Seniors! 🙌 Alongside other amazing foster grandparents, she helps and supports our teachers and students every single day.
We are beyond honored to have Mrs. Bess (and all our Foster Grandparents) as part of the Pinevale family.
Once a Tiger, always a Tiger! 🐯💛🖤 #PinevalePride #TigerForever #AmeriCorpsSeniors #FosterGrandparentsRockp

It didn't take us long to find a Cat Caught Reading! 🔍🐾
Dr. Lockhart has been making his rounds across the district — and this week, he took time to share a story with one of our elementary classes. His commitment to literacy is clear, because when our students see leaders who read, they belieVe they can too. #BelieVeInTheV 📚
