Janiya Alford has officially signed to continue her flag football career at the next level — becoming the first Wildcat in school history to sign for a flag football scholarship!

From being part of the inaugural season and starting on JV as a sophomore, to earning a varsity starting position as a junior and First Team All-Region honors at center, Janiya has built her legacy through hard work and determination.

This past season brought injuries that impacted her stats, but not her drive. She set a goal as a sophomore — despite never having played flag football before — to earn a scholarship, and she worked tirelessly to make it happen.

She balanced athletics and academics with a 3.2+ GPA, and with the unwavering support of her family behind her every step of the way, Janiya proved that perseverance pays off.

VCS Athletics Director Coach Mitchell announced that Wildcat Flag Football will now expand to the middle school level — continuing to build on this success and grow the program for years to come.

Janiya didn’t just reach her goal — she helped pave the way for the next generation of Wildcats.
