For Trinity Sherman, scholarship support has meant more than help paying for college. It has helped create the freedom to pursue experiences that are shaping who she is becoming.
Now a sophomore at the University of Georgia, Trinity is studying Public Relations through the Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication with a minor in Consumer Economics.
Since arriving at UGA, she has become heavily involved both on campus and throughout the Athens-Clarke County community. She currently serves as a Marketing and Communications Intern with the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce while also working Saturdays at Sanford Stadium as a Premium Seating Game Day Ambassador, where she has the opportunity to serve UGA donors.
This summer, another door opened.
Trinity received her first passport and traveled outside the United States for the first time to study abroad in Thailand, an experience that allowed her to immerse herself in another culture, step outside her comfort zone and see a part of the world she had never imagined she would have the opportunity to experience.
For Trinity, those opportunities carry even greater meaning because of the journey that brought her to UGA.
“As a first-generation college student who experienced the loss of my father, scholarship support has helped ease the financial burden of college for my family. More than that, it has given me the freedom to take advantage of opportunities that I may not have otherwise been able to pursue.
Since arriving at the University of Georgia, I have become heavily involved both on campus and in the Athens-Clarke County community, allowing me to grow as a leader and connect with people beyond the classroom. This summer, I studied abroad in Thailand, where I received my passport on my own and left the United States for the first time. Being able to experience another culture and step outside of my comfort zone is something I never imagined I would have the opportunity to do.
Today, I am a sophomore at UGA studying Public Relations with a minor in Consumer Economics. I am gaining professional experience as a Marketing and Communications Intern with the Athens Area Chamber of Commerce, while also working Saturdays at Sanford Stadium as a Premium Seating Game Day Ambassador, where I have the opportunity to serve UGA donors. These experiences are helping me grow personally and professionally while preparing me for the career I hope to pursue.
I am incredibly grateful to the people in my hometown who have continued to invest in me and BelieVe in my future. To the VCS employees who choose to give, thank you for making opportunities like these possible. Your generosity has allowed me to not only pursue my education, but to fully experience everything that college has to offer. I hope to one day give another student the same opportunity to dream bigger, explore further, and see just how far they can go.”

From a little Wildcat in Valdosta to a college student studying abroad on the other side of the world, Trinity's story is another reminder that we may never know just how far an investment in a student will go.
A scholarship may help with the immediate cost of college, but its impact can reach much further. It can give a student room to say yes to an internship, become more involved on campus, study abroad, build professional connections or pursue an experience that once seemed out of reach.
And perhaps the greatest return on that investment is found in Trinity's hope to one day provide the same opportunity for someone else.
That's how giving continues.
