As Week 3 of the VCS Foundation Employee Giving Campaign continues, a J.L. Lomax teacher shows how seemingly small resources can make a meaningful difference for students.
Throughout the BelieVe. GiVe. NeVer Quit. Employee Giving Campaign, the VCS Foundation has been sharing the stories behind the giving. Some of those stories involve big experiences and opportunities.
Others are found in the little things that happen inside a classroom every day. For Kimberly Alexander and her Read 180 students at J.L. Lomax Elementary School, VCS Foundation support helped create a learning environment where students were encouraged to set goals, read more and celebrate their success.
Little Things. Big Impact.
VCS Foundation grant funding helped provide rewards and incentives that encouraged students to work toward their reading goals.
It provided bags to keep materials and headphones safe and organized, comfortable seating where students could enjoy reading and learning, and a printer that allows Alexander to create colorful certificates students can proudly take home and share with their families. But perhaps the most important result can't be found on a supply list. Students were reading. They were reaching goals. They were experiencing success.
And some discovered that the stories they were reading could actually be interesting and enjoyable.
“Sometimes it's the little things that help a student stay motivated, feel successful, and want to keep going,” Alexander shared. “I'm grateful the VCS Foundation BelieVed in my students and helped give them the tools and encouragement to do just that.”
That's the story behind the giving.
Your $5 Doesn't Have to Do It Alone
A $5 monthly gift doesn't have to fund an entire classroom project by itself. It joins another employee's $5, and another. When VCS employees GiVe together, those individual contributions strengthen the VCS Foundation's ability to support students, employees, classrooms, schools and opportunities throughout Valdosta City Schools. And as Week 3 continues, the campaign is moving toward its next milestone.
21 More Wildcats to Reach 200
As of Wednesday, September 16:
179 VCS employees have committed to monthly payroll deduction. Another 28 employees have made one-time gifts. That's 207 Wildcats already participating in this year's campaign. The VCS Foundation's ultimate goal remains 400 monthly donors, but right now we're focused on the next step.
We're only 21 monthly donors away from 200.
If you've been thinking about participating, now is the time to help us cross that mark. Even $5 per month becomes $60 over the course of a year. When hundreds of VCS employees choose to GiVe together, those gifts can become something much bigger. A resource that helps a child succeed. An experience a student might otherwise miss. A teacher's idea brought to life. A scholarship that follows a Wildcat beyond graduation.

💛 One-Time Gift: Make a one-time gift
Employees who prefer a traditional paper donation form may request one through the VCS Foundation, and copies can be delivered to their school or department.
All campaign forms and one-time payments must be received by Wednesday, September 30. Employees who give at least $5 per month or make a one-time gift of at least $60 will also be entered into the VCS Foundation's employee gift card drawing.

And to the 21 who can help us reach 200, we're ready for you.
