Employee Benefits Header

Valdosta City Schools' (VCS) benefit plans are frequently reviewed to make certain each plan effectively addresses the needs of employees and their families. From health insurance to long term disability, our plans help protect the financial security of our employees as well as assist with other needs and events of life.  Our benefit plans cover all full time employees working at least 30 hours per week. Employees working less than 30 hours must meet certain requirements for limited benefits.  The VCS employee benefits program is an excellent program that exceeds the essentials. The program's overall design is intended to enhance employees’ lives.

Remember Open Enrollment is in the October to November time frame. Exact dates will be announced. This is the time to make changes to your insurance choices.

Eligible employees are all employees who are employed half-time or more as teachers, administrators, supervisors, clerks, teacher aides, secretaries, paraprofessionals, public school nurses, and managers/supervisors employed in the lunchroom, maintenance, warehouse and transportation departments.  Benefits are earned after 10 years of creditable service.  Full retirement benefits are available after 30 years of creditable service or 10 years of creditable service and 60 years of age.  Early retirement is allowable with a completion of 25 years of creditable service.  If you retire early, your benefit may be permanently reduced. Active members may now access their membership statements online via their TRS account.

Members Within 2 Years of Retirement: If a member is within 2 years of retirement (either because of age or years of creditable service) TRS can provide benefit projections. TRS recommends that all members nearing retirement log in to their TRS online account and make an appointment for a one-on-one counseling session. This meeting affords members the opportunity to bring a guest, receive benefit information specific to their situation, and ask questions.
