During the night, VCS officials received notification of an online bomb threat to
J.L. Newbern Middle School
(NMS) detected through online monitoring conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigations. Emergency responders were immediately notified so that appropriate personnel could be deployed to sweep the building ensuring there were no active threats on the NMS campus.
Around 7:15 am, the official all-clear was given by emergency responders. There will be an increased presence of police officers on and around campus today as an extra security measure.
We would like to take this opportunity to remind parents to speak with their children about the dangers of online threats. These threats carry serious consequences for the offender, even when they are not intended as real.
VCS keeps the safety and security of our students, staff, and community at the forefront of all we do. We thank everyone who jumped into action quickly so that we could safely open our school on our regular schedule this morning.
