Stephen Crosby, New Principal of Valdosta Middle School

Valdosta City Schools is pleased to announce the promotion of Mr. Stephen Crosby to Principal of Valdosta Middle School, effective July 2025. A dedicated educator and leader within the district, Mr. Crosby brings a wealth of experience, energy, and heart back to the school where his career first began.

Mr. Crosby currently serves as Assistant Principal at Sallas Mahone Elementary School. His career has included leadership roles at both S.L. Mason and Sallas Mahone, where he supported school improvement efforts, instructional planning, teacher development, and student services. A proud graduate of Valdosta State University, Mr. Crosby is deeply committed to the mission of Valdosta City Schools and the success of its students.

Returning to Valdosta Middle School, where he once served as a teacher and helped pioneer the Cognia-certified STEM Academy, is a meaningful full-circle moment in his career.

“I'm honored and excited to be coming back to where my career started,” said Crosby. “Valdosta Middle School has always been a special place to me. I already have a deep connection with many of the students, families, and staff, and I look forward to leading Valdosta Middle School to new heights.”

Mr. Crosby has been recognized for his commitment to equity, innovation, and student-centered leadership. He is a published contributor to educational thought leadership and has participated in the Governor’s School Leadership Academy, Valdosta City Schools' Aspiring Principal Academy, and multiple Georgia Leadership Institute for School Improvement (GLISI) cohorts.

Superintendent Dr. Craig Lockhart shared, “Stephen Crosby exemplifies what it means to grow and lead from within. His heart for students, his strategic mindset, and his ability to build strong relationships will serve Valdosta Middle School well. We are proud to welcome him back in this new capacity.”

Mr. Crosby will officially assume his new role in July 2025.
