Valdosta City Schools recently experienced one of those heartwarming moments that reminds us just how special our Wildcat family truly is.
In less than 48 hours after sharing a post on Facebook, weβre thrilled to report that a long-lost Valdosta High School Class of 1965 class ring has officially found its way back home, all the way from Little Rock, Arkansas.
The story began when Shirley Anderson with Riverfront Plaza in Little Rock reached out after discovering a class ring in their lost and found. The ring featured a beautiful blue stone, was engraved with the initials βBJS,β and belonged to a graduate from the Class of 1965. With the power of social media and our incredible community, the search for its owner took off. In under two days, we had our answer!
VCS officials quickly confirmed the ring belonged to Mrs. Beverly June Sikes Smith, a proud graduate of Valdosta High School. Using the Valdosta High School Alumni Directory and archived student records, verification was provided, and the ring was immediately shipped back to Valdosta.
Earlier this morning came the best moment of all, we were able to hand deliver the ring to Mrs. Smith right here at the VCS District Office.
When Mrs. Smith arrived with her husband, Mr. Randall Smith, they also brought along a treasured collection of VHS memorabilia to share with our school system. Among the items were a program from the Class of 1965 Baccalaureate Exercises held May 30, 1965 at Cleveland Field, a Valdosta High School academic excellence letterman sweater, a miniature megaphone, a Class of 1965 50th Reunion stadium cup, and a 1975 Valdosta Wildcat football season coin holder from First National Bank of Valdosta. ππ
It was truly a blessing to hear the Smiths share their memories and their deep love for Valdosta High School and the Class of 1965. Their pride in being Wildcats still shines just as bright today.
A huge thank you to Shirley Anderson in Little Rock for going above and beyond to return the ring to its rightful owner. She is a beautiful reminder that kindness, connection, and community still go a long way. π€ππ
Welcome home, Class of β65 ringβ¦once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat! πΎπ€π
