Hillarie Smith

Valdosta City Schools is deeply saddened to share the passing of our colleague and friend, Hillarie Smith, who served in the VCS Payroll Department.

During her time with Valdosta City Schools, Hillarie supported employees across the district with payroll questions, missed clock-ins, and leave requests. Many members of our VCS family experienced firsthand her patience, kindness, and genuine desire to help others. Her passing leaves a tremendous void within our Central Office family, especially among her colleagues in the VCS Finance Department.

Just days ago, Hillarie shared a message reflecting on her journey and the deep faith that carried her through these final days. In her own words, she wrote, "My 39th year didn’t quite have the beginning any of us were expecting, but I know one thing and that is God knew and none of this has taken Him by surprise."

She also expressed her gratitude for the love and prayers surrounding her family. "I cannot thank enough EVERYONE near and far who have covered me and our family in prayer. Please keep it coming because my kids and Robert will need it."

And in closing, she shared these words, "I love you all so much and I am eternally grateful for the life I have been blessed with."

Hillarie’s family shared that she moved to her heavenly home early in the morning on Wednesday, March 4, surrounded by family, just as she wanted.

For those who wish to honor Hillarie’s memory, donations may be made to the That Others May Live Foundation: https://givebutter.com/c/7ebhVa

Please continue to keep Hillarie’s husband, her three children, and everyone who knew and loved her in your thoughts during this difficult time.

May we all BelieVe as strongly as Hillarie did. 💛
