Valdosta High School and S. L. Mason Elementary School have been named 2026 Military Flagship Schools by the Georgia Department of Education, on behalf of State School Superintendent Richard Woods—an honor awarded to only 19 schools across the state this year.

This prestigious distinction recognizes schools that go above and beyond to support military-connected students and families, ensuring they feel welcomed, valued, and supported every step of the way.

Celebrations held on April 16 featured patriotic performances by the Valdosta High School Band and S.L. Mason Honor Chorus, a Presentation of Colors by VHS JROTC, and special remarks from Col. Kenneth A. Roberts (Moody AFB), Ms. Racheal LaVoie (GaDOE), Alicia Stasiulis (Moody AFB), CMSgt Nathan Funkhouser (Moody AFB), and Justin Crenshaw (Pastor of Church House Valdosta and VCS Board Member).

With this recognition, Valdosta City Schools is proud to now have four Military Flagship Schools, joining Sallas Mahone Elementary and Valdosta Middle School.

Our commitment goes beyond the classroom—we honor, uplift, and celebrate those who serve.
