The Valdosta Board of Education has officially named Dr. Valerie Smith as Principal of Pinevale Elementary School.
Dr. Smith has served as Interim Principal since March 25, providing steady leadership and support for students, staff, and families. The Board has now voted to appoint her as the school’s permanent principal.
Dr. Smith brings more than two decades of experience in education and school leadership. She has served as an assistant principal at both Valdosta Middle School and J.L. Newbern Middle School, where she supported school operations, teacher development, and student achievement. Her work has also included oversight of key initiatives such as MTSS and PBIS, helping ensure strong academic and behavioral supports for students.
She holds a Doctor of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Valdosta State University, along with advanced degrees in educational leadership and literacy.
“It is truly a blessing to lead a school with such a welcoming environment and strong connection to the community it serves,” said Dr. Smith. “I look forward to continuing to work alongside Mrs. Warnick Lewis, our assistant principal, and the outstanding teachers and support staff at Pinevale as we move forward together as 1 Tiger Nation.”
Dr. Smith added, “All things are possible if you only believe, and I believe in our students!”
Dr. Craig Lockhart, Superintendent of Valdosta City Schools said, “We look forward to the continued success of Pinevale Elementary School under Dr. Smith’s leadership as the school community remains focused on student achievement at the highest levels.”
