the two honorees with their plaques

At the May 19, 2026, Valdosta Board of Education meeting, two outstanding law enforcement officers were recognized with a Recognition of Valor plaque for their heroic actions during a critical incident at S. L. Mason Elementary School on September 25, 2025.

Officer Maria Rodriguez of the Valdosta Police Department and Officer Jason Glass, School Resource Officer at S. L. Mason Elementary School and this year’s VCS CATS Award winner, were honored for their courage, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to protecting the students, staff, and families of our school community.

Their willingness to respond without hesitation in a time of crisis reflects the very best of public service. Through their bravery, leadership, and dedication to the safety of others, they exemplify the values of law enforcement and the spirit of The 3V Way.

On behalf of the Valdosta Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Craig Lockhart, and the entire Valdosta City Schools family, thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Please join us in congratulating these two VCS Heroes.
