Valdosta High School is ranked among U.S. News & World Report’s 2026–2027 Best High Schools, placing No. 170 in Georgia and No. 6,546 nationally.
“This recognition belongs to our students, teachers and staff who show up every day ready to do the work,” said VHS Principal Dr. Johnnie Marshall. “We want every Wildcat to have access to challenging courses, the support to succeed in them and a clear path forward after graduation. I am proud of the progress our school community has made, and we are continuing to build on it.”
Since becoming principal in 2023, Dr. Marshall has focused on expanding opportunities for students and helping them prepare for life after high school. His 3E Graduate Planencourages students to pursue a path toward enrolling in college or technical education, enlisting in the military or entering the workforce.
AP enrollment at VHS increased 20% from 2024 to 2026, while the number of AP Scholars grew from 33 to 52. Students can also pursue International Baccalaureate courses, Dual Enrollment and more than 35 career pathways.
“Dr. Marshall and his team have been intentional about strengthening the culture at Valdosta High School and creating more opportunities for students,” said Valdosta City Schools Superintendent Dr. Craig D. Lockhart. “This recognition gives us an opportunity to celebrate their work and the accomplishments of our Wildcats.”
