Valdosta City Schools has been awarded more than $1 million in grant funding to expand mental health and wellness services for students, strengthening the district’s commitment to supporting the whole child.
The district will receive $1,025,115 over the next five years through Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education), administered by the Georgia Department of Education and funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Healthy Services Administration.
The award provides $205,023 annually to expand access to mental health and wellness services, with a particular focus on the district’s elementary schools and Promise Program.
This investment will help Valdosta City Schools strengthen its ability to address students’ social, emotional, and mental health needs while creating additional opportunities for students to receive the support necessary to thrive academically and personally.
The grant reflects the district’s continued commitment to the 3V Way: Vision, Values, and Victory. By investing in student wellness, Valdosta City Schools is working to build stronger foundations for student success, both inside and outside the classroom.
The district extends special appreciation to Ms. Samantha Napier, Dr. Lauren Whitaker, Ms. Yolanda White, and Dr. Shelly Fandel for providing the critical information and data necessary to complete the grant application.
This significant award represents another step forward in ensuring Valdosta City Schools students have access to the resources, relationships, and support systems they need to succeed.
BelieVe in the V!
