Valdosta City Schools mathematics teachers recently participated in professional learning focused on Number Talks: Building Mathematical Thinking Through Talk, led by two of the district’s own outstanding educators, Mrs. Cicely Riley and Mr. Austin Strozier, former and current Teachers of the Year.
Throughout the training, teachers collaborated on strategies to incorporate Number Talks into their classrooms, strengthening students’ number sense, mental math skills, critical thinking and mathematical communication.
Number Talks encourage students to explain their mathematical reasoning, explore multiple problem-solving strategies and learn from one another through meaningful classroom discussions.
This professional learning opportunity reflects Valdosta City Schools’ continued commitment to instructional excellence, teacher collaboration and student achievement.
